1 Corinthians 9:26
The opposite of  "without aim" is vision/focus. Time to write out a vision statement.
Need to focus

The palm tree is a symbol for victory. The one on this piece is my favourite, the New Zealand nikau palm..

Jacob's Choice

Don't often get a word in the middle of the night but this was one of those times.
The still small voice saying " You have Jacob's choice".
It took me a while to work that out but the gist of it is : Jacob wrestled for the blessing.
He didn't sit back passively and go, "What a shame, I was second born". He made an active plan to get blessed. He worked hard 7 years for Rachel. He even had the cheek to wrestle with God!
In every story to do with Jacob there is a wrestling for the blessing. Interestingly, out of this, he became Israel - prince with God. I think God wants this active seeking after Him and his blessing and seeing what Israel (the nation) has had to endure to get the blessing - knew they needed a strong and dominant gene for perseverance.
Funnily enough, I never paint or like the colour orange but it just kept happening in my artwork lately - turns out orange is the colour for perseverance. Think I'm getting the message a bit more clearly now.

Earthen vessel

This was actually the sketchbook challenge for May - finally posted here as it became a meditation on 2 Corinthians 4:8.
The bowl I modeled it on has been broken and glued back together and hand made by some potter ( picked it up from an op shop) but I love it for all it's roughness and lack of monetary value. Speaks to me as to where I am at anyway.

Working with wax and seals. The softened wax impressed with the design which then hardens in place; our lives need to be soft enough for the impression of the Holy Spirit - moldable/teachable
We are sealed with the Holy Spirit and in that, set apart - a seal of promise.
At this time of Pentecost when the church calendar remembers the first outpouring of the Holy Spirit I think it is good to remember what a radical thing it is: God's own Spirit dwelling in us..
Sealed also speaks of mystery to me - something kept sealed is secret, a mystery, a wondering, a curiosity...
a sealed envelope speaks of the importance of the contents to the sealer too....
